A fire risk assessment is an audit of a premises current fire safety measures and if necessary will include improvement or regulatory compliance recommendations.
The assessment is an organised and methodical look into the activities taking place on your premises to identify any significant risks that could cause a fire and or harm to people. It confirms if suitable precautions are in place or if further action is required to avoid or reduce the risk and potential harm to people and property.
Comprehensive appraisal
The heart of your fire safety strategy is a quality fire risk assessment conducted by trained, experienced and competent assessors. We will investigate everything possible; every accessible area of a building will be looked at and we will conduct an in-depth assessment based on what we see.
Minimum legal requirements
When conducting the fire risk assessment, we establish which legislation is applicable and what must be complied with. We apply ourselves to support our customers to ensure that all legal requirements are met.
Pre-occupancy fire risk assessments
Do you require a pre-occupancy fire risk assessment? This can be undertaken once handover of the building/project has been completed, but before the premises is fully occupied. The purpose of a pre-occupancy fire risk assessment is to determine the fire life safety control measures you need to have in place prior to occupation. Often seen as a way of formulating a fire safety snagging list that can be rectified to improve life safety measures prior to occupation.
It is very important to remember that if a pre-occupancy fire risk assessment is undertaken a full fire risk assessment must also take place once the premises is occupied and in normal use.
Alternative approach
There are times when an alternative approach is required, this could be because its not practical to install a proposed fire safety measure or you would just like to explore alternative options to achieve compliance. We will work in partnership with you to explore those options maintaining a realistic and recognised approach to create a fire risk assessment you can use as support and submit to the fire authority for consultation.
Protecting you and your business
We are committed to protecting our customers. Fire safety comes with considerable responsibilities and we ensure those in responsible positions are suitably protected by assisting and supporting them to maintain a suitable level of compliance.
Due diligence
Whilst you are not expected to be an expert in fire safety, it is important you make reasonable checks to ensure the person you appoint to carry out a fire risk assessment is competent. There are two principal methods by which people can demonstrate their competence:
Professional body registration scheme or,
Certification by a certification body that is UKAS accredited for the activity.
